Guidelines for Making a Recommendation

Librarians encourage you to suggest noteworthy materials, excluding textbooks, for library collections. Post-renovation, the library is primarily an electronic collection, supplemented by select, physical books and media.

Your suggestions made here are limited to physical-item requests, primarily books and DVDs.  All suggestions are subject to approval and available funding. When available, physical books are purchased in paperback format. Discounting creative, fictional (including children’s and young adult materials), and popular culture topics and works, recommended books should be:

  • new to the library, not matching electronic titles in our e-book and e-video databases;
  • published by reputable outlets (usually university, academic, specialty, or professional society presses, or a scholarly division of a major publishing house. No self-published books);
  • supported by positive, critical reviews found in reputable publications.

If you have questions or need assistance regarding use of this form, please contact Tina Van Kley: Tina.VanKley@bhsu.edu. If you wish to make collection recommendations that go beyond use of this form, please contact Mike Tolan: Michael.Tolan@bhsu.edu.

For assistance with library donations, skip this recommendation form and contact Mike Tolan at Michael.Tolan@bhsu.edu. If you would like to donate materials related to the history and culture of the Black Hills, please contact Lori Terrill at Lori.Terrill@bhsu.edu.
